Complete Pet Dental Care For Healthy Gums, Teeth, and Fresh Breath

Did you know that according to the American Veterinary Dental College, most pets show signs of gum disease by three years old? Regular pet dental care often goes overlooked by even the most caring owners. Offensive breath can indicate poor oral health, and if neglected can be painful for your pet and expensive to your pocket book. Fortunately for Bellville and surrounding areas, we perform thorough assessments of our patients to prevent and treat periodontal disease, but we also educate our clients on how to keep their pet’s teeth healthy at home.

Providing Professional Oral Maintenance and Treatment

Gum disease, or periodontal disease, occurs when plaque has a chance to turn into hard tartar, which carries dangerous bacteria into surrounding tissues. In its most severe form, bacteria enters the bloodstream and can damage your pet’s organs. Gum disease is entirely preventable though. Dental care at Star Hill Veterinary Clinic will help keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy. Ways in which we provide exceptional oral care:

  • We perform surgical extractions on painful, decayed or broken teeth.
  • We remove stubborn tartar with scaling and cleaning below the gum line.
  • Fluoride treatment is included in every dental procedure to prevent tooth decay.
  • We closely watch your pet’s vitals with advanced monitoring equipment.
  • We use prophylactic antibiotics to ensure dangerous bacteria is eliminated.

Just like us, plaque accumulates in your pet’s mouth daily. Even with the most diligent care, annual dental visits to our practice is essential for the optimal health of your cat or dog. We recommend senior and middle-aged pets see us biannually. Because we understand the added expense of pet dental care, we offer specials in February and August. Please ask us more at our practice.

Educating Our Clients on At-Home Dental Care

Though some pets may not always be accommodating, it’s still crucial to perform at-home maintenance. Cats are notorious for being the least cooperative when it comes to brushing. Because they hide discomfort easily, they often suffer from broken teeth, abscesses and decay in silence. With pet friendly tooth paste, dogs may be more accommodating, but cats can get used to daily brushing too. We understand with busy schedules, you may not have time to wrestle your pet every day to brush their teeth. If you can’t manage every day, try every other and look for products endorsed by the Veterinary Oral Health Council. Please schedule a wellness exam for more tips on at-home care, or call us with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.
